Cassegrain telescopes are a type of telescope also called catadioptric telescopes, using both lenses and mirrors effectively squeezing an optically long telescope into a short tube. The most common designs within this group are Maksutov Cassegrains and Schmidt Cassegrains both of which are capable of superb image quality and are a good choice as an all-purpose telescope for an astronomer who will be mixing visual observing with photography.
