Invented by Carl Kellner (1826-1855) in 1850. A Kellner eyepiece consists of three elements:an achromatic eye lens spaced apart from a simple (usually planoconvex) field lens. Kellner eyepieces are economical choices for small to medium aperture telescopes with a focal ratio of f/6 or longer.
